Most travellers to Iceland visit at least one major waterfall. The mountainous terrain and heavy rainfall in Iceland produce many waterfalls. The word for waterfall in Icelandic is Foss.

One of the season premiers for the TV show The Amazing Race started in Iceland. One of the places the teams were looking for was Seljalandsfoss. One of the teams kept asking "Where is the waterfall?? Foss?? Foss?? Tell me where the Foss is!!" The locals that they encountered had no idea which foss they were looking for. The Americans sped off, thinking that the Icelanders they encountered were stupid and/or drunk.

Here's a map of places in Iceland that contain the word Foss (waterfall). The larger, more notable waterfalls have unique names, but many smaller falls are simply named Foss.
